How To Improve Your Website Speed

The slow website speed overshadows its attractive design, great content and other utilities. Today, anyone doesn’t have the chucks of time to wait for a page to be loaded. If your website is taking too longer to open, the users will simply click the cross mark and navigate to another webpage.  Making your website faster is also necessary for increasing the conversion rates, lowering the bandwidth costs and landing on the higher ranks in the organic search.

Here I’ve discussed the ten ways you can increase your website speed:

(1)    Always resize images before uploading them. Do not resize images using width and height and instead do this by using the image editing software such as Photoshop, Photofilter or Irfanview. The online image editors are also available using which you can resize your images.

(2)    Compress images using the right file type before uploading. For the photos having a lot of colours use ‘lossy’ compression such as JPEG. For images with only a few colors use ‘lossless’ compression such as PNG and GIF.

(3)    Always put your images on a separate domain, it is pretty easy with the services like Amazon S3. So create an S3 account and point a subdomain like ‘abc.yoursite.com’ at S3 storage. Stock your images there. The browsers have the utility to simultaneously load from the multiple domains.

Otherwise you can put your images on image hosting websites like ImageShack, Flickr or Photobucket and use them as your separate domain.

(4)    Don’t use the 301 redirects unnecessarily, and use them when they are indispensably needed.

(5)    Make sure that the memory management of your server has been configured correctly. Pledging into the details of server memory management will be pretty comprehensive, but if has not been managed properly, hire someone or contact a professional to fix the issue.

(6)     If your website is has a large amount of content and it is attracting a considerable traffic, than you need to put your website on one server and your database on another. Since the database transactions eat up a lot of server vigor, the presence of both on the same server causes the server to be slowed down.

(7)    The website speed largely depends on the service quality of your webhosting provider. So getting a hosting service, make sure that you are investing in decent and renowned hosting.

(8)    Until I it become the dire necessity, do not use the SSL.

(9)  Whenever possible, put off JavaScript loading. Carry out a Google search for ‘deferred javascript’ for getting the further information about it.

 (10) If you are a WordPress user, set up caching on your server by using a plugin like W3 Total Cache. If you are using another application, first learn that what are its caching capabilities and set up caching accordingly.
